
The following members of the Waco Fire Department have made the supreme sacrifice while in the line of duty protecting the lives and property of our City:April 30, 1925 Fireman N.H. Kendrick, Engine Co. 1 Age: 25 - While preparing to depart the running board of the apparatus arriving at a structure fire at the rear of 507 S. 5th Street, Kendrick was crushed between two fire trucks as Engine Co. 4 skidded on wet pavement and collided with Engine Co. 1. Three other firefighters were injured in the incident. Fireman Hendricks died at the hospital approximately 5 hours after the accident. March 23, 1960 Captain Robert D. (Bob) Brandon, Unit 2 (now Chief 3) Age: 56 - Acting Assistant Chief Brandon collapsed of an apparent heart attack while operating at the scene of a house fire at 2620 Alexander Avenue. After one trip up a ground ladder to inspect the attic area which was still issuing heat and smoke, he descended the ladder to catch a breath of fresh air. Brandon collapsed off of the ladder while making a second climb for further inspection. Resuscitation efforts failed. Captain Robert D. (Bob) Brandon
April 7, 1969 Fireman Jimmy Fox, Engine Co. 5 Age: 21 - Just 2 days after completing his 6-month probationary period, while operating at a smoldering silo filled with sawdust at 2420 Jackson Avenue, a collapse occurred burying Fox and another fireman. Despite the efforts of other firefighters in digging the men out, Fox died from suffocation. Fireman Jimmy Fox
