YOUR Waco Professionals!

Waco Professional Firefighters Association, IAFF Local-478, is the professional association of firefighters for the City of Waco, Texas. Even though our name tells of our main purpose, the wellbeing and safety of Waco firefighters, we are much more than our name implies.

Your Waco Professionals, as we have come to be known, takes part in many different organizations and programs throughout the year that all work to help those in our community from all walks of life, who are in need. As a part of the IAFF, we are commonly thought of during the nationwide Fill the Boot campaign with MDA. However, we are also proud to help with other fundraisers and charities, such as “Food for Families” and Miracle Match Marathon.

As firefighters, we feel a need to do what is right and necessary to help those around us, family or stranger, in their times of need. Though we have chosen to make that our profession, and our organizations goal is to take care of our brother and sister firefighters, we as an association also have a passion for doing what we can to make our community better for all.

Thank you for your support, and for visiting our website. Have a look around, and be sure to also check out our merchandise selections, either here or on Waco Fire Apparel FB page.

Don’t forget to like us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter, @Waco478 !!

We are here to support each other, our community, and our citizens.

While working at a 2-alarm apartment fire today, one of your Waco Professionals had to switch roles for a few minutes and keep a child company while other personnel assisted parents with salvage of personal belongings.
These extra steps during tragic times are what we are here for, and we are proud Firefighter Karl was there to make the difference.

Tonight, someone at Luigi's Of Woodway spread a little Holiday Cheer and had the generosity to pay for the dinner of our Station 11 crews (Engine-11, Truck-11). While they chose to keep it a secret, not even telling the crews about it when they did it, we hope that maybe they would see this and know that your Waco Professionals are extremely grateful for the meal! Thank you, milkbottlecookies!
Today, we remember the 343 firefighters that made the Ultimate Sacrifice for strangers in need. The memory of that day is as chilling now, 20 years later, as it was the moment it happened. It is difficult to believe that two decades have passed, but it is even tougher to try to find the number of true heroes that were involved in every event of that day.
3,000 lives were lost on that day, but countless others were saved by the actions of so many, uniformed and civilian. Let us Never Forget that day.

Your Waco Professionals are teamed up with members of the City of Hewitt Fire Department on the deployment to Louisiana. As a part of TIFMAS, crews are sometimes mixed together to work on other departments apparatus, which just goes to show the versatility of the fire service family.
This is Rawling. He was with his grandmother who had gotten out of her car to go inside a local daycare to pick up his younger sibling. On her way into the facility she fell and injured herself. He jumped out of the car to run to her aid. He also alerted the staff to her injuries. He did not hesitate. We have promoted him to honorary jr firefighter for his quick thinking and bravery. Great job Rawling! Posted with parental consent.
This week, several members of Local-478 have been in Rockwall at the 47th Biennial Convention of the Texas State Association of Fire Fighters working to better the representation, benefits, and safety of Texas Firefighters.

Your Waco Professionals would like to wish you a Happy, and SAFE, Memorial Day weekend 2021!!

Let us all remember the purpose of this weekend. To spend time with those dear to us, and to Honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of the great United States of America.

While we enjoy this weekend and hope you have a great time, let's touch on a few safety points, so that you won't have to spend your long weekend getting a visit from us:

1. If you will be in, or near the water, please be sure to have a life jacket, even if you know how to swim.

2. Be safe and drive defensively on the roads, especially at night. Ensure everyone wears their seat belt, properly. Plan your route prior to passing through an area you are unfamiliar with. DO NOT DRINK AND DRIVE, and NO Texting while driving either!

3. Keep grills, smokers, campfires, or other outdoor cooking appliances away from structures. Do not dump hot ashes in the trash can or dumpsters.

*REMEMBER, any open flame not for cooking purposes is illegal within the city limits of Waco.

And finally..
5. Please keep a lookout for any emergency personnel on the roadways, slow down, and move over.

HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND!!
Station 5-B had a special visitor today that asked for a picture after he saw the guys washing E-5. Thanks for stopping by!!

Fun Fact: Firefighters like to keep their machines clean for several reasons;

1.) We take pride in our equipment, and like to keep our rigs looking professional.

2.) Keeping your vehicle clean is part of a proper maintenance plan, ensuring that any issues are able to be noticed and repaired quickly.

3.) We are forced to use these apparatus for long periods of time (sometimes up to 20+ years), and the better care we can take care of it, the longer it can be in service.

4.) You, the taxpayer, have entrusted to us a highly valuable piece of equipment and we will do our best to take care of your investment.
