Just two days after completing his 6-month probationary period, while operating at a smoldering sawdust silo at 2420 Jackson Avenue, a collapse occurred burying Fox and another fireman. Despite the efforts of other firefighters in digging the men out, Fireman Fox died from apparent suffocation.
